A body cleanse helps to rid the entire body of built-up toxins. The first thing that differentiates this process from a regular diet is the elimination of red meats, alcohol, dairy and processed foods. One then begins the cleanse by consuming only water and fruit juices. This is followed by a diet of raw fruits and vegetables, along with their juices and of course, more water.

As toxins accumulate, a variety of health problems arise. These can include increased allergy symptoms, chronic fatigue, stress, chronic headaches, lack of energy and depression. The human body is constantly detoxifying itself. The liver breaks down toxins, then they are eliminated through the kidneys, skin, colon and lungs. However, modern technology and industry have produced many more food and environmental toxins than the body may be able to handle. It may need help ridding itself of these damaging external chemicals. This is where a full body cleanse comes in. This process helps give the body a rest from intake of toxic compounds, allowing it to purge itself of harmful materials.

This process requires a temporary but drastic change in diet. Immediately ceasing consumption of processed foods, animal foods, and caffeine to start the cleanse may be detrimental. This can cause side effects such as nausea, headaches and dizziness. The best option is to slowly taper off these substances. At the same time, drink enough water, and begin a diet of whole grains, organic fruits, vegetables, etc. Then, begin the fasting phase of the cleanse. This makes the entire process more successful.

Fasting is a good way to begin a cleanse. By not consuming solid foods for approximately one to two days, you stop ingesting additional harmful toxins. This allows your system to rest. The amount of toxins entering the body drastically decreases which allows the body to prepare to purge itself of existing toxins.

In addition to fasting and drinking only liquids, either a cleanse diet and/or cleansing products should be used. Diets address the functions of multiple organs in the body. Cleansing products usually target a specific organ in the body, for example, the colon.

When shopping for a cleansing product, look at the ingredients to be sure they will be healthy for your body. Make sure that either the cleansing product, as well as the entire diet, will promote fat and weight loss. Most toxins are stored in fat, so this is the key area that must be addressed. A total cleanse is most effective as opposed to a specific product. It reduces weight, and ultimately, fat.

A cleanse usually should last seven to ten days at the most. Any longer, and harmful side effects can occur. These include muscle atrophy due to lack of protein, anemia, irregular heartbeat and low blood sugar.

When done over a moderate period of time, a body cleanse detox leads to increased well-being. Regardless of whether a person’s regular organs (kidney, liver, colon) are already equipped to get rid of toxins, a full body cleanse does leave one with more energy and an increased sense of well-being. This leads to a healthier lifestyle, which by itself decreases the toxicity levels in one’s body.
